Wreath & Garland Tips for an Entry That Stops Traffic

The entry is where a display gets finished. These are the rules we use when we hang wreaths and garland across North Jersey — and the mistakes we see most often.

Wreaths & Garland

5 best practices for wreaths & garland

1

Go one size bigger than feels safe

From the street, wreaths shrink. A 36-inch wreath over a garage reads normal; a 48-inch reads spectacular. When in doubt, size up.

2

Pre-lit or skip it

An unlit wreath disappears at night — which is when everyone sees your house. Warm-white pre-lit greens match the roofline and read all evening.

3

Hang decor in early November, not October

Greens hung too early look tired by Christmas week. A dedicated decor pass in early November keeps everything fresh through the season.

4

Garland goes where hands go

Rails, doorframes, and columns — garland belongs on the lines people touch and walk past. Draping it randomly reads cluttered.

5

Protect the paint

Never nail or tape garland to painted trim. Purpose-made mounts hold everything firm and come off clean in January.

Good to know

Wreaths & Garland questions, answered

Can I get wreaths and garland without roofline lighting?
Our decor is designed as part of a full display, and most clients add it to a lighting package. On the Zoom quote we will design the combination that fits your home and budget.
When do wreaths and garland go up?
Early November, in a dedicated decor wave — after the October light installs, so greens stay fresh through Christmas.
Are the wreaths lit?
Yes — pre-lit, warm white, and matched to the rest of your display so the whole house reads as one design.
How do you attach garland without damaging trim?
Purpose-made mounting that grips without screws into finished surfaces, and never adhesive on paint. Your trim looks untouched in January.
